V. P. Nnanna
What country are you based in?
Am based in Nigeria.
Do you feel your location has an effect on your domain investing?
Yes, location has affected my domain life, First People have a general reasoning of Nigeria, or Nigerains being scammers, which is basically not true. Secondly, most times buyers would want a call. also most buyers would love to know where you are mailing them from, and once they discover you are a Nigerian, they tend to act careful or even back out. Some even go as far as pricing less than the agreed price for the domain, because they believe that it will be a big money, in your country.
How long have you been involved in domains?
I started domaining in 2017, but didn’t get anything out of it, came back in 2018 fully, as a part-time domainer. And made it a hobby, accessing domain sites daily.
Are you a full time domainer?
No I can’t call myself a full time domainer.
How did you find out about domain investing?
I found out about domaining through an online forum, here in Nigeria. And registered for a tutorial, basically the tutorial was just on Geo Domains and how to use Expireddomains.net, which i was basically interested on, at that time, but now am looking at diversification.
How many domains do you currently hold?
Like I said earlier am not a full time domainer, so I sometimes regulate the number of domainers I keep in my portfolio. Since 80% of them are mostly geo names, which Requires outbounding. I regulate my geo names to 300, not to exceed 500 names, in any circumstance. Recently I am letting most names expire as I plan creating a balance between geo names and investing into Non geo names. Then I can aim for a portfolio of over 500 and above to 1000 and more. Since domaining isn’t a full time business for me yet. Basically, now i just have less than 300 names as i intend diversifying.
What's your favourite non .com tld/nTLD/gTLD?
My favourite non .com tld is co and then xyz.
What's the best advice you've been given by another domain investor, either directly or through something they've said on twitter or in an interview?
The best advice I have been giving and I still get is from Alex Verdea, he always has something to say about each day of the week, and keeps me on my toes to resume outbounding.
What kind of goals do you set yourself?
My goal is to be a big domain investor, both in geo names and non geo names in my country, Though it’s not my full time business, but i plan using my domain proceeds to execute many Ngo projects, which i intend to carry out in my lifetime.
Who are your top 3 domain investors?
Many investors I learn from on twitter, but since you said three, I will say Alex Verdea, Tony names, and Yogi, but believe me there are many.
What's the toughest part of domain investing?
Choosing a good name is the toughest part for me. Because I believe that a good name will always market itself.
How do you structure the domaining part of your day?
I do my outbounding, mid nights, & mornings, same way I purchase most of my domains at night. So basically it’s a night thing.
How do you manage your portfolio?
Portfolio management has always been a problem for me, am still learning and looking for what will work best for me. But currently am working on having a one registrar, for my domains for easy management. And Epik has 80% of my names because of the easy customer service offered by Rob and his team.
Do you also have any NFTs or Crypto in your portfolio?
Yes, i just started buying nft and crypto Domains, i buy nfts and crypto domains i like from Namepros. So once i see and i can afford i buy.
What's the most you've ever spent on one domain?
$100 $200 bucks on a domain, for now, and this are non geo names, but since I deal mostly on geo names, I Majorly register them myself.
Have you ever done outbound? If so, were/are you successful?
80% of the time my sales come through outbounding and a little inbound offers, so if you want to stay afloat with selling geo domains, you should be married to outbounding.
You're given $10k to spend on domains, how do you spend it?
I have learnt and still learning from Tony and Alex, I will love to diversify into non geo names from dropcatching, auctions and more, so I will use that money to buy premium names that I find worthy and love to hold.
Outside of domains, what other business/wealth/personal growth figures do you look up to?
I studied law, so i would love to practice law and grow in that field. Secondly domaining made me develop passion for intellectual property law, so might take a degree, like an llm on intellectual property law if opportuned.
What do you do when you're not domaining?
If am not domaining, is either am studying or having my free time with friends. But domaining has a way of turning someone into an introvert. Because i always want to have time, so i can outbound.
What advice would you give to people just starting out in domains?
My advice to them is not to give up, because sales drought can make someone think of giving up, but they should invest more, if they have the funds, in quality names, because the higher the portfolio, the more chances of having a sale. If they are into Geo domain names, they should please price the domains reasonably.
