Franck J

What country are you based in?

France.

Do you feel your location has an effect on your domain investing?

Not really. But in fact yes, I could easily register extensions in the EU zone (got 100+ .FR domains) (French) Language has a stronger effect.

How long have you been involved in domains?

Bought my first domain – soniclife.net – in 2001, but for building purposes. I went massively in serious domaining in January 2021,

Are you a full time domainer?

Not anymore 🙂 It takes time so I’m still building my portfolio while developing other activities.

How did you find out about domain investing?

Can’t remember exactly but that was about branded domains for sure and I loved the way of concentrating one idea/project into one domain name.

How many domains do you currently hold?

Between 1000 and 1500, I guess

What's your favourite non .com tld/nTLD/gTLD?

XYZ, CO, FR

What's the best advice you've been given by another domain investor, either directly or through something they've said on twitter or in an interview?

Lately, great insights from AbdulBasit’s interview that helps me reposition my strategy and portfolio
https://jamesnames.com/2021/07/abdulbasit-makrani/

What kind of goals do you set yourself?

Get full revenue from domaining so I could make it my main activity cause I love doing this.

Who are your top 3 domain investors?

AbdulBasit Makrani, James Iles, Braden Pollock

What's the toughest part of domain investing?

Renewals!

How do you structure the domaining part of your day?

First thing I am doing after getting myself a cup of coffee: going through different expired and auctioned lists:
  • DomainSmoke.com Daily Expired Auctions
  • DSAD.com Daily List of Domains at Auction
  • Namebio.com Domain Discoveries

How do you manage your portfolio?

I have stopped managing it… All not .FR and listed at Dan.com (all .FR domains are listed at Sedo) and so I manage them from there.

Do you also have any NFTs or Crypto in your portfolio?

Just a few now.

What's the most you've ever spent on one domain?

Around $2k if I remember well.

Have you ever done outbound? If so, were/are you successful?

Maybe a couple of, so no result. I don’t like this so much.

You're given $10k to spend on domains, how do you spend it?

A handful of good .COM domains and a full bag of Bargain Bucket Domains or cheap auctioned Domains. There are tons of cheap opportunities in expired domains at Auctions and Backorders.

Outside of domains, what other business/wealth/personal growth figures do you look up to?

Building sites on top of great/inspirational domain names. I recently acquired AnyPage.com and CreateRevenue.com for that purpose.

What do you do when you're not domaining?

I build sites.

What advice would you give to people just starting out in domains?

Buy just a very few domains at the start, and read, learn, observe, and take notes for like a year would be the best strategy. Cause you will make a lot of bad acquisitions. Also, making mistakes is part of the process, that’s how you learn so go for it, but with a little and limited budget.

Investing in domains is a delicate balance between knowledge and guts, and that’s why it’s so exciting.
